ATLS 4519: Interactive Sound

Course Description

Interactive Sound puts an exclamation point on creative technology and design by combining and expanding technologies from Sound, Web, Object, and Code. The class will utilize Max from Cycling 74’, a flexible visual programming tool that will enable students to create their own interactive media software to produce original and innovative creative projects for installation or live performance.

Interactive Sound will explore generative and web-based sound design that can be employed in a wide array of interactive projects. We will use JavaScript libraries such as node.js and tone.js along with the integrated development environment of Max to interactively control sound, audio, video, and physical objects. We will also explore the possibilities of Max for Live to build performances using the Ableton Live digital audio workstation.
